In 2019, HOPE lost an important part of our family. Vernon Walker died on November 30. Vernon started off as an outreach volunteer, with his wife, Bobbie. Vernon became a HOPE staff member, working the overnight-to-morning shift at the Nighttime Navigation Center.
He always strived to be kind and generous to people and often would give HOPE clients a few dollars in the morning for a bus ticket, a hot meal or gas to get to work. His dedication and care for those in need was contagious and he had a positive impact on everyone who was lucky enough to meet him, even in passing.
Vernon will be missed immensely. In his memory, we have established the Vernon Walker Memorial Fund. HOPE will use the Vernon Memorial Fund to purchase gift cards and give them to people in need of a pick-me-up or one less worry that day.
Would you consider donating to the Vernon Memorial Fund? Vernon knew that a small gift of $10 could brighten someone’s day and lighten their load. We hope to carry on his legacy of small, yet significant acts of kindness.
